Medium is largely a platform for the young, I’s say those from 18 to 40. That’s who loves the listicles, life-advice, productivity boosters, start-up information, relationship hints and self-improvement articles that make up the bulk of its content.

Fine. There’s nothing wrong with that.

But not everyone is under 40. I think there is also a need for a publication that addresses the concerns of older writers and readers. I’d like to start one.

It might include outside articles on aging, as well as original essays, articles, stories and poems.

I want a publication that addresses as many aspects of aging, not just in America, as possible.

I do not want to create a platform for inter-generational warfare and name calling.

I am in the very early stages of this. I don’t even have a name yet.

If you think this is a good idea, I am asking for your help.

My email address is: bookgardener@gmail.com.

I’d like to hear ideas on content and form, especially from anyone who might help with physically creating the publication.

I’d also like to hear from anyone who might like to be an editor or writer. Let me stress that although the topic is aging, there will be no age limit for participation. We are all aging, even Millennials. It is really a subject one should start considering while young.

I would think that those who deal with health and health care might be interested, as an aging population, especially one with a bulge as large as the Baby Boomers, will have profound effects on our heath care system. It will also have a huge economic impact, so if you write about the economy, retirement, jobs, new products, etc., you might be interested.

If you have any ideas you would like to express, or would be interested in writing for such a publication, please email me. Suggestions for a good name are welcome too. :)

Thank You,

Mike Essig
