As a baby boomer, the Cold War was my life. From fifties H-bomb drills, through Vietnam, living in Germany in the eighties, during visits to the old East Germany, I could never (never, ever, ever) imagine a world without the Soviet Union. In a longish life, no single international event ever shocked and surprised me as much as watching the Berlin Wall come down. It was like watching the end of a world. Whatever would come next? :)
