Good article. As you point out, she was a true believer Stalinist. That was more than “regrettable.” She presided over the “suppression” of the non-Communist militias, especially the anarchists, like POUM. In this she proved herself a stone cold killer. She sanctioned and tried to explain away many flat out murders. Passion is a good thing. Fanaticism never is.
