Good article, but you make a fundamental mistake. You assume that the market is all encompassing. It has become more so, but it is not ubiquitous. There remain spaces outside the market. Art, and artists, tend to be found in those spaces, where they have always been.

Having said that, I don’t recommend poverty. Been there. It is a drain on the spirit in every possible way. :)
