Good article. I think a bigger question is the whole notion of “legacy students” who account for 40% of admissions to elite colleges. Legacy, in this case, is just a buzzword for benefactor of inherited wealth. End it. Make the critters get in on their on merits.
Then they can spend the rest of their lives paying off the immense debt they incurred buying something of dubious value. That’s a life lesson.
It would also help break up the self-perpetuating elite of the barely taxed inheritors of wealth who are destroying any real hope for democracy.
