I agree. I grew up in a small town with many of the Greatest Generation. Most of them were not so great.

Every generation is born into a specific time and does what it can with what it gets. That’s what they did. That’s what we all do.

True, they fought a long, difficult war. But that wasn’t something they all wished for or would have desired. It happened and they responded.

They, at least the elite among them, began the modern, government centered, corporate/military dominated, globalist, surveillance society we have now. The rank and file did what they were told, accepted the treadmill of the corporate world and its lie that consumption bought happiness, then passed it along.

Attributing adjectives like greatest to any generation is just another illusion that can be sold as a form of worship to help make people like Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, and Ken Burns more money, while in reality, it demeans that generation by turning them into plaster saints, which they definitely were not.

They were people who did the work in front of them. That’s not great, it’s normal.
