Meg: I did and I’m sorry if I gave the impression I didn’t. I don’t want to minimize how she, or any other girl, felt about when they came across those magazines. If she says she felt that way, then she did.
I just wanted to stress that interpreting the past from the point of view of the present is inherently dangerous and usually leads to dubious or false conclusions. This is true of all such judgements, not just those about old girlie magazines. Yet, as fewer and fewer people have any knowledge of history, it is becoming more and more common. I see it on Medium everyday.
So, Dennett, if you are reading this, I apologize if I seemed to be minimizing your personal experience. I didn’t mean to. I just wanted to make a wider point. Sorry.
