Most Americans never own a passport in their lives. Very few have ever lived in another country. Almost none speak another language. We are perhaps the most insular first world country on earth.

I liked Europe before the soul killing Euro, when there were borders, when you knew each time you entered a new world. I liked passport stamps. I liked changing money, Marks, Lira, Francs, whatever.

Homogenization is a synonym for death.
