Raymond Queneau was one of the OuLiPo group. They investigated the possibilities of verse written under a system of structural constraints. Lionnais and Quenuau believed in the profound potential of a poem produced within a framework or formula and that, if done in a playful posture, the outcomes could be endless.
They came up with a number of fixed structures, basically formulas that you plug words into. The results would, they thought, be varied and interesting. Although the forms were predetermined, the results weren’t.
Does it work? You’d have to try them for yourself and see how they feel to you. I’m still deciding. :)
