When I die
my words will scatter
like fallen leaves.

All I have made
blown carelessly
to the Four Corners.

This is both
heartbreaking
and amusing.

They are
not really mine
anyway.

Hold on to nothing,
you become free
to do anything.

****************

Han Shan was a Taoist poet who lived alone on a mountain and wrote poems on trees, rocks, etc. His poems are usually collected under the title, Cold Mountain Poems.
