Syntax is language. Grammar is language. If you don’t know the grammar and syntax of your own language, you are like the average car owner. You can use the car, but you can’t understand it or hope to fix it. You can’t command it. Break all the rules you like. I do, both in poetry and prose. But I know when I am an why I am. That’s a big advantage.
