The SF Diggers, Peter Coyote, Emmet Grogan, et al, were a fascinating, if now forgotten, phenomenon. Sleeping Where I Fall: A Chronicle, and Ringolevio: A Life Played for Keeps are good places to look for their story, but being written by Diggers, they have to be read like magical realism. Dig it. :)
