They didn’t want to hear. They feared psychedelics because LSD can cause people to experience something beyond consensus reality. That experience threatened the fake social construct that they worked so hard to create and enforce. Suppose a new substance arrived, people took it, had an experience, and the next day cancelled their Amazon accounts. That substance would be illegal in a heartbeat. :)
