Vance: Oh, you are not alone. But, at 27, you really can’t imagine the number and intensity of the problems that make aging scary.

And they are cumulative… Once you hit about 60, you find yourself in a daily shitstorm. Dying friends, dying parents, financial distress, and decrepitude are only a few. And you know it won’t get better.

You seem like a nice, optimistic, positive young man, like my 26 year old son. Enjoy that while it lasts. But don’t even kid yourself that it will or that some kind of magical thinking will save you from the inevitable. It won’t.

It was brave of you to write this at your age. When I was 27 ageing wasn’t anywhere on my radar. So good for you.

But death isn’t Death until you look it in the eye.
