Well said, but the results I meet aren’t encouraging. You don’t make free, thinking, responsible citizens by training them up in jails. If you try, when they get out, they just look for new jailers to tell them what to do.

I’m glad I was a kid in the 50s. There was no parenting then, only parents. It wasn’t perfect, but you learned to be on your own early. You wanted to leave home as soon as possible. And there weren’t any thirty year olds living in Mom’s basement because the world bit them. Sink or swim is how the world works. There may be a few lifeguards around sometimes, but you can’t count on that being the case.

I taught over a 30 year period. I watched kids get more and more dependent, weaker and weaker. Only anecdotal, of course, I don’t have any manufactured statistics to back up my observations. Good luck.
