You are making the classic mistake of reading something out of the context of its time and place. The essence of Stoicism can be summed up as simply knowing what you can and can’t control and then taking action about the former while enduring the latter. Almost exactly the opposite of how you present it here. Expecting a very different and long ago culture to share your modern biases is absurd. Context before conclusions.
